This permanent, full-time Legal Assistant role is in our Medicine Hat office of Smith & Hersey Agribusiness Law LLP. Position holds potential for advancement as competency is demonstrated.
The Role
- Draft documents for new incorporations, sale agreements, corporate restructuring, and general agreements
- Draft documents for sale agreements, financing, transfers, and general agreements
- Work directly with the supervising lawyer and experienced staff member
- Draft and complete reporting packages for clients
- Prioritize workflow to ensure completion of accurate work within established deadlines
- Maintain files: including daily filing, organization, opening files, closing files, etc.
- Handle client correspondence, both incoming and outgoing
- Administration duties, including bill preparation, file opening, and booking appointments
- Ensure proper receipt, handling and disbursement of trust funds
Skills and Experience Required
- Completion of a recognized legal assistant program is preferred, but not required
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong organization skills
- Highly motivated
- Capacity to work effectively within deadlines and short time frames
- Responds to tasks with little supervision
- Maintains professionalism, confidentiality and discretion
- Able to work independently
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience

Smith & Hersey Agribusiness Law LLP firm is a growing solicitor’s practice which operates out of Medicine Hat with remote offices in 5 other locations across SE Alberta. While operating with a wide range of clientele, Smith & Hersey’s primary focus in in agriculture, with clients ranging from Edmonton to the U.S Border in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.
